Abstract
A study was carrid out to find the pollution state of heavy metals in the HAN River and stream waters in Seoul area for the period from May to Nevember 1974.
Cadmium, Mercury, Copper, Lead, Chrome, Cyan, Arsenics and Zinc contents were determined with the samples collected from each of 8 points selected and than analyzed by A.A. Spectrophotometric and total cyanogen Monitor TCN-l method.
As the results of this study, the following conclusions were obtained;
1. Cadmium; In the HAN River the Concentration of cadmium increased gradually from 0.0005ppm at Kwang Jang Bridge to 0.00425ppm at Yeum Chan Dong. In the streams, the highest concentration of cadmium was found at An Yang Stream(0.0176ppm), while the lowest But Kwang Stream(0.002ppm).
2. Mercuryo The highest concentraion of Mercury were found 0.000275ppm(0.275ppb) at Yeum Chang Dong, while the lowest was detected at yeung Dong Bridge(0.000025ppm (0.025ppb)). At Kwang jang Bridge and jam Sil Bridge, Mercury was not detected. In 8 sampling points of streams the highest concentraion of Mercury was found at An Yang Stream (0.00083ppm) While the lowest at Chunnong Stream(0.00003ppm).
3. Copper; Copper increased gradually form 0.0036ppm at Kwang Jang Bridge to 0.002 ppm at Yeum Chang Dong in the HAN River. The highest concentration in streamts was determined at An Yang Stream(0.28ppm).
The concentration of copper in other streams were 0.2625ppm at Chunnong Steram, 0.17ppm at Bul Kwang Stream and 0.1625ppm at Chung Ryang Stream.
4. Lead; The concentraions of Lead were found 0.0044ppm at yeum Chang Dong 0.0025ppm at HAN River Bridge No. 2 in the HAN River. At An Yang Stream Lead was determined 0.144ppm while HAN River the concentraions of Total chrome increased form 0.0003ppm at Kwang Jang Bridge to 0.0021ppm at Yeum Chang Dong as the flow went down except 0.00148ppm at HAN River Bridge No. 3 where highly polluted Chungge Stream and Chung Ryang Stream ran into.
In streams the highest pollution total chrome was determined at An Yang Stream (0.0647ppm).
6. Cyan; The highest concentration of cyan in the HAN River were found at An Yang Stream (0.0016ppm) while cyan was not detected at Kwang Jang Bridge and Jam Sil Bridge At An Yang Stream cyan was determined 0.0186ppm.
7. Arsenics; The concentraions of Arsenics in the HAN River were found to decrease from 0.0051ppm at Yeum Chang Dong to 0.0019ppm at HAN River NO. 3 while arsenics was found in trace at Kwang Jang Bridge and Jam Sil Bridge.
The highest pollution was 0.0103ppm of An Yang Stream while the lowest 0.0013ppm at Chunnong stream and Bong Won Stream respectively.
8. Zine; In 8 sampling points the highest concentraion of Zinc was found 0.0084ppm at Yeum Chang Dong in the HAN River and 0.0836ppm at An Yang Stream in the Streams.
